Month 6 - Essential Documents & First Steps
Tip of the Month: During an emergency ATM machines may not be working. Having some cash on hand is helpful. Make sure bills you have small bills.
Step 1: Essential Documents
Review your insurance policies and have copies of important documents such as banks, credit cards and mortgage information. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has a financial preparedness toolkit to help you.
Step 2: First Steps
After a disaster, people may not think clearly. That's why doing a training program like the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is valuable. You can find a training in your own neighborhood by contacting your city government or fire department. Not everyone has taken a CERT class yet so we're providing a quick handout of some first steps to help you prioritize. These First Steps are tailored towards people who live in an area prone to earthquakes so feel to tweak it to the disasters your community is most likely to experience.
